Nizhny Novgorod doctors named the main summer dangers for children.

June 11, 2026 09:13 Society From the end of May until the beginning of September, medical professionals traditionally refer to this period as the "100 most dangerous days of summer." During this time, the number of hospitalizations for children with injuries doubles, reported Alexey Nikонов, editor-in-chief of MIA "Statsionar-Press." Among the modern risk factors for children, electric scooters, trampolines, open windows, bodies of water, and prolonged sun exposure are increasingly common. Falls from electric scooters often lead to severe injuries. Moreover, up to 85% of injured children use personal mobility devices without helmets. Doctors advise not to neglect safety gear and not to ride double on one scooter. Another risk is associated with the so-called "trampoline syndrome." This occurs when several children of different weights jump on a trampoline at the same time. The impulse from the jumps of a heavier child can lead to serious injuries in a younger child, including compression fractures of the spine and shin. Doctors recommend following the rule: one trampoline - one child. With the onset of heat, the number of falls from windows also increases. Specialists emphasize that mosquito nets create a false sense of security and cannot withstand even the weight of a one-year-old child. For ventilation, it is recommended to use a vertical window opening mode or special lock-blockers. Specialists pay particular attention to the risk of so-called silent drowning. Children can drown quickly and almost silently, as due to an instant spasm of the larynx, a child is physiologically unable to call for help. Therefore, adults are advised not to be distracted for even a second if a child is in or near water. One should not forget about the sun. Children's skin is thinner than that of adults and contains less melanin. According to experts, up to 80% of ultraviolet damage, which may later lead to melanoma, occurs before a person reaches 18 years of age. To protect against this, it is recommended to use products with SPF 50+, wear a hat, and avoid direct sunlight from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Specialists note that summer activities should not be banned, but it is important to remember the places where the risk of injury is particularly high. Earlier, residents of Nizhny Novgorod complained about the shortage of medication for treating nonspecific ulcerative colitis. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
