      On June 10, a charity event to support citizens in difficult life situations took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Probation and Social Rehabilitation. The event was organized by the NGO "Mercy." During the event, the Deputy Minister of Social Development and Family Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Vadim Tsyganov, the director of the NGO "Mercy" Artem Khokhlov, and the director of the NGO "Volunteer Center of the Nizhny Novgorod Region" Daria Kovanova handed over 140 boxes of dry instant food and 25 sweet sets with protein cookies to the beneficiaries of the institution. Residents of the center received complete sets of dry food designed for one day, including four dishes. This assistance is aimed at providing additional support to people in difficult life situations. As reported by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy, the NGO "Mercy" has been operating in the region since 2019, providing support to citizens in difficult life situations, as well as to homeless individuals. For over a year, they have been regular partners of the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Probation and Social Rehabilitation. The staff and volunteers of the organization provide the center's beneficiaries with individual sterilized long-term meals, hygiene kits, sweet products, and other humanitarian aid items. In 2025 alone, 600 hygiene kits and 2,600 food packages were delivered to the center. "Today, a comprehensive system of assistance has been established in the region for people in difficult life situations. Our socially oriented non-profit organizations and volunteer associations play a special role in this work. Thanks to such partnerships, we can not only provide targeted support but also create conditions for the social adaptation of people, help them restore lost social connections, and return to a full life," noted Deputy Minister of Social Development and Family Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Vadim Tsyganov. Starting in the fall of 2024, with the support of the NGO "Volunteer Center of the Nizhny Novgorod Region" and the assistance of the head of Nizhny Novgorod, a project called "Social Kitchen" will be implemented. Its main task is to provide hot meals to people in difficult life situations. Since the project's inception, over 95,000 comprehensive hot lunches have already been delivered to residents of the region. "For us, it is important not just to provide one-time assistance but to build a systematic approach to those who find themselves in difficult life situations. With the support of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, we can expand existing projects, attract new partners, and increase the volume of assistance. Our immediate plans include further development of the 'Social Kitchen' project, expanding its geographical reach, and implementing new joint initiatives aimed at supporting the most vulnerable categories of citizens," emphasized the director of the NGO "Mercy" Artem Khokhlov. In 2026, the project received support from the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region through the Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy. Starting in July, the "Social Kitchen" will begin operations in the Kstovo district of Nizhny Novgorod. By the end of 2026, it is planned to open two additional points for the distribution of hot meals in the regional center.

      More than 40 volunteers from the Volunteer Center are participating in the implementation of the initiative. They pack food into special airtight containers, assist in organizing meal distribution, and deliver prepared dishes. "Supporting people who are on the path of social adaptation and returning to a full life requires not only material assistance but also attention, participation, and human communication. During such meetings, we strive to hear everyone, understand the real needs of people, and build further work so that it is as useful and targeted as possible," noted the head of the Volunteer Center of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Daria Kovanova.
