The number of wildfires in the Nizhny Novgorod region has decreased by 6 times.
June 10, 2026 13:42 Incidents The fire hazard season in the Nizhny Novgorod region in 2026 is significantly calmer than the previous year. This was reported at a press conference by the Deputy Chief State Inspector of the Nizhny Novgorod region for fire supervision, Colonel of the Internal Service Sergey Bolshakov. The event was attended by a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod." According to Bolshakov, since the beginning of the year, 73 landscape fires have been registered in the region. In the same period last year, there were over 400. Thus, the number of such fires has decreased by approximately 5.5−6 times. The maximum number of landscape fires occurring in a single day has also decreased. This year, the peak figure was nine cases, while last year it reached 29. Two to three years ago, on certain days, there were 60−70 such fires recorded. "The figures we have today show that the fire hazard season is going quite calmly for us," noted Sergey Bolshakov. A positive trend is also observed in forest fires. Since the beginning of the year, only three such cases have been registered in the Nizhny Novgorod region, while last year on the same date there were 17. At the same time, the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations emphasized that after the end of the dry grass burning period, the main risks traditionally shift to forest areas. Since April 30, a special fire safety regime has been in effect in the Nizhny Novgorod region. It includes additional fire safety requirements, as well as restrictions on visiting forests when IV and V classes of fire hazard are established. Current information about the fire hazard class is published daily on the website of the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region. In addition, state fire supervision employees checked settlements exposed to the threat of landscape fires. There are a total of 752 such settlements in the region. According to Sergey Bolshakov, a large number of violations related to the protection of territories from the spread of fire from forests were identified during the inspections. Among them are insufficient sources of fire-fighting water supply, as well as untimely removal of dry vegetation and garbage. The representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations also reminded that during the special fire safety regime, it is prohibited to use open flames on forest fund lands, adjacent territories, and agricultural lands. Campfires and garbage burning are not allowed on household plots. Increased fines are provided for violations of fire safety requirements. For individuals, they range from 10,000 to 20,000 rubles, for officials from 30,000 to 60,000 rubles, and for legal entities from 400,000 to 800,000 rubles.
