The number of fires in the Nizhny Novgorod region has decreased by 24%.

      Since the beginning of the year, there has been a significant decrease in the total number of fires in the Nizhny Novgorod region, however, against this background, the number of victims and injured has increased, including among children. This is reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the region. According to the agency, a total of 1,443 fires have occurred in the region since the beginning of the year. This is 24% (or 452 fires) less than in the same period last year. The number of people who had to be evacuated has also decreased: 1,853 people compared to 2,529 a year earlier (a decrease of 27%). At the same time, the overall statistics of the deceased and injured show a negative trend. The fire claimed the lives of 86 people, which is 4% more than last year's figures (83 deceased). The number of injured has also increased by 6%—up to 76 people. The statistics from the Ministry of Emergency Situations raise particular concern regarding child mortality. Since the beginning of the year, five children have died in fires in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which is five times higher than the figures for the same period last year (when one child died). Another five children were injured (three last year). At the same time, rescuers are managing to save more people from the fire. Since the beginning of the year, 238 people have been rescued from fires, including 34 children. This is 6% more than a year earlier (224 rescued).
