On June 7, 2026, at 10:18 AM, incidents were reported in Nizhny Novgorod regarding the initiation of a criminal case for large-scale fraud. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region.

An 18-year-old 11th-grade student began receiving messages in messaging apps from individuals claiming to be employees of "Rosfinmonitoring" and the "FSB." The unknown individuals convinced the young man that a suspicious operation was allegedly being conducted on his account, which needed to be urgently canceled.

Following the instructions of the fraudsters, the student collected his parents' savings—2,500,000 rubles—as well as gold jewelry: diamond rings, chains with pendants, and a bracelet. After that, he handed the backpack to an unknown man near his home.

The exact amount of damage will be determined during the investigation.

Based on the signs of the crime, as provided for in part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud," the investigative unit of the district police department has initiated a criminal case.

Police officers urge parents to have conversations with their children about financial and digital safety, as well as to explain the rules of communication with strangers.

It was previously reported that a schoolgirl from Nizhny Novgorod gave fraudsters more than 11 million of her parents' savings. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX. Subscribe to stay updated on major events, exclusive materials, and operational information.
