Nizhny Novgorod's "Torpedo" traded Atanasov to SKA for Polyakov.
On the first day of the transfer window opening in the KHL, Nizhny Novgorod's Torpedo and St. Petersburg's SKA conducted a player exchange. As a result of the deal, forward Vasily Atanasov and defender Arseniy Varlakov moved to St. Petersburg, while Nizhny Novgorod welcomed forward Matvey Polyakov. Additionally, Torpedo received a monetary compensation. Vasily Atanasov had been with Torpedo since 2022 and quickly became one of the fans' favorites. In total, he played 226 games for the team, scoring 132 points (71+61). In the 2022/2023 season, he also won the Kharlamov Cup with Chaika. As for the newcomer from Nizhny Novgorod, the 21-year-old forward made a strong impression in his debut KHL season. While with SKA, he played 68 regular season games, ranked among the top scorers of the team, and recorded 29 points in the "goal+assist" system. At the end of the season, Polyakov was nominated for the league's best rookie award. He also participated in the league's All-Star Game and is a holder of the Kharlamov Cup. Torpedo's general director, Evgeny Zabuga, stated that negotiations for Polyakov's transfer had been ongoing throughout the previous season.
We thank Vasily for his seasons with Torpedo. I would like to note that the decision to trade him was made considering his wish to change teams (in the absence of any claims against our Club). We respected his position and accommodated him. We thank Arseniy for his work in the Torpedo system and wish him further progress, added the general director.
