A 19-year-old woman from Nizhny Novgorod stole valuables worth 1.8 million rubles under the influence of scammers.
On June 1, 2026, at 10:28, Incidents: Police officers detained a 19-year-old student suspected of stealing valuables from a private house in Nizhny Novgorod. The girl was under the influence of fraudsters. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.
The homeowner on Smirnovskaya Street contacted law enforcement. He reported that an unknown person broke a window on the veranda, entered the residence, and stole money and gold jewelry. The total damage amounted to 1,850,000 rubles.
Criminal investigation officers identified the suspect. She turned out to be a 19-year-old resident of the Balakhna district. According to the police, the girl became a participant in a multi-level fraudulent scheme.
First, she received a call supposedly from an educational institution under the pretext of updating data. Then, she was contacted by fake law enforcement officers. They convinced the student to "declare" her parents' savings by transferring them to controlled accounts.
Subsequently, applying psychological pressure via video communication, the criminals directed the girl to Nizhny Novgorod to participate in a fictitious "special operation" to search for the criminals' housing. After entering the house, she pawned the stolen jewelry and transferred the money received to the details dictated by the fraudsters.
A criminal case has been initiated under part 4 of article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (theft). The student has been placed under a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior. She faces up to ten years in prison. Police are checking information about the possible involvement of the Nizhny Novgorod resident in another similar crime.
