Electronic prescriptions for antibiotics may be introduced in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      May 29, 2026 18:15 Society The system for selling antibiotics through electronic prescriptions is set to be implemented in Russia, particularly in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was announced by a representative of the region's healthcare sector, Alexey Nikонов. The specialist clarified that the proposal to link the sale of all prescription medications to digital prescriptions was made by Roszdravnadzor. Sales are planned to be monitored using a system for tracking the movement of pharmaceuticals. Currently, this mechanism is being developed by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

      Not everyone is accustomed to the fact that antibiotics, like many familiar medications, are dispensed by a doctor's prescription. Digital control will become an absolute restriction on sales, so this new measure will increase queues at clinics—“I just need to get a prescription,” emphasized Alexey Nikонов.
