Construction of a tunnel from the "Gorkovskaya" metro station has begun in Nizhny Novgorod.
The tunneling complex "Evdokiya" will cover 729 meters while excavating the left running tunnel to the "Ploshchad Svobody" station. In Nizhny Novgorod, the excavation of the left running tunnel from the "Gorkovskaya" metro station to the "Ploshchad Svobody" station has begun. The mechanized tunneling complex "Evdokiya" will cover 729 meters and install 485 rings of high-precision reinforced concrete lining. The project to extend the Avtozavodskaya metro line is being implemented as part of the socio-economic initiative of the Government of Russia "Infrastructure Menu," aimed at developing transport infrastructure and improving the comfort of citizens in Russian cities. "The development of the metro in large cities is one of the priorities of transport policy. It is not only about the comfort and mobility of passengers but also about the connectivity of districts, the development of the urban environment, and a new impetus for the economy. The project to extend the Avtozavodskaya metro line in Nizhny Novgorod is an important part of the modern transport infrastructure of the city. A significant increase in passenger traffic is expected in the upper part of the city, specifically at the "Sennaya" and "Ploshchad Svobody" stations — up to 12.5 million people per year. The tunneling complex "Evdokiya" has started work. Its task is to pass the left running tunnel with a length of about 730 meters," said Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin. The Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Secretary of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the "United Russia" party Gleb Nikitin reminded that such a volume of work on metro construction is being carried out in Nizhny Novgorod for the first time since Soviet times. "This is another, but very important stage of tunneling work, during which the existing metro line will be connected to new stations in the historical center of Nizhny. Metro builders have already constructed two tunnels with a total length of three kilometers from the "Sennaya" station to the "Ploshchad Svobody" under constrained urban development conditions. Now, two tunnels remain to be excavated — a total of about 1.5 thousand meters, to move on to the stage of constructing the main structures of the station complexes in the home stretch," emphasized Gleb Nikitin. The mechanized tunneling complex (MTM) "Evdokiya" weighs over 590 tons, and its length is over 80 meters. "Evdokiya" will be serviced daily by 40 specialists. Specialists from the "Mosproject-3" group of companies were able to start tunneling after completing a complex of difficult works to construct the launch pit on Maxim Gorky Street: 15,800 cubic meters of soil were excavated for the assembly chamber, and 311 tons of metal structures were installed to strengthen the walls of the pit. The construction of the launch pit was complicated by the fact that to transition the work into the active phase, it was necessary to pre-strengthen the foundation of house No. 113 on Maxim Gorky Street, for which specialists drilled 31 wells and pumped over 100 tons of cement mixture using special equipment. "All these preparatory works for the excavation of two tunnels from the "Gorkovskaya" station to the "Ploshchad Svobody" station were completed in less than five months after a long comprehensive survey and obtaining all necessary expert opinions. Now the mechanized complex "Evdokiya" can start work, and we plan to construct the first tunnel already in the fall," said Konstantin Matveev, General Director of the "Mosproject-3" Group of Companies. It is worth noting that the project provides for the extension of the Avtozavodskaya line by 3.06 km using a closed method with the construction of two shallow stations — "Ploshchad Svobody" and "Sennaya." The head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, called today a significant day for the entire city and its infrastructure development. "The launch of the tunneling shield "Evdokiya" is a key stage in the extension of the Avtozavodskaya metro line. During the construction of new stations, an enormous amount of work has already been completed: both tunnels from "Sennaya" to "Ploshchad Svobody" have been fully excavated. All communications at the sites have been completely rearranged, and preparatory work and pit arrangements on Gorky Street and Ploshchad Svobody have been completed. Now "Evdokiya" comes into play — a modern complex that will pass the left tunnel and install hundreds of reinforced concrete rings. The total length of the section that will connect the historical center of the city with the Avtozavodskaya line will be over three kilometers. This will seriously change the transport situation, making movement around the city more convenient and faster," noted the mayor.
The construction of new metro stations in Nizhny Novgorod is one of the key elements of developing transport infrastructure within the framework of the national project "Infrastructure for Life," initiated by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, as well as the people's program of "United Russia."
