Six people fell ill with tick-borne borreliosis in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing in the Nizhny Novgorod Region reports the beginning of the tick activity season. As of May 27, 2026, medical organizations in the region received 2,309 reports of tick bites, of which 672 were from children. Complaints were registered in 49 municipalities and in eight districts of Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported by the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The highest number of reports was recorded in the urban districts of Bor (192) and Dzerzhinsk (157), as well as in the Vetluzhsky (133) and Pavlovsky (131) districts. In the districts of Nizhny Novgorod, residents of the Avtozavodsky (108), Prioksky (118), and Soviet (131) districts most frequently complained. Six laboratory-confirmed cases of tick-borne borreliosis among the adult population have been registered: in Nizhny Novgorod, Tonkinsky, and Balakhna districts. In all cases, the infection occurred within the territory of the region. The number of reports in 2026 is overall below the average long-term level—by 1.3 times. By the site of the bite, the distribution looks as follows: 38%—in the yard, 32%—in garden plots, 16%—in the forest, 12%—in parks and squares; tick bites have also been recorded in other regions. A total of 3,225 ticks were laboratory tested, including 3,008 removed from people. Positive findings were identified in 392 cases (17.2%). Seven ticks with the tick-borne encephalitis virus (0.2%) were found in Shakhunya, Bor, Sharanga, and Uren districts; 459 ticks were infected with Borrelia (17.3%), 15—with Ehrlichia (0.7%), and 104—with Anaplasma (4.7%). Emergency prevention with anti-tick immunoglobulin was conducted for 405 victims, of which 395 were children. Vaccinations against tick-borne viral encephalitis were administered to 9,271 people (116% of the plan), including 989 children. Acaricide treatments continue in the region.
