      The Nizhny Novgorod team of veterans of the special military operation "Storm" became the bronze medalist of the championship among veterans of the special military operation in the All-Russian amateur league of sled hockey. The tournament took place in four stages during the 2025-2026 season. The final matches were held in Samara. The athletes' training was conducted at the adaptive sports center "Parus" in accordance with the goals and objectives of the state program "Sport of Russia." As noted by the Minister of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod region Dmitry Kabailo, adaptive sports were initially considered as part of the support for veterans, their rehabilitation, and socialization. He emphasized that the team showed a worthy result and expressed confidence in further sports achievements. The necessary equipment for sled hockey training for veterans is provided by the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the "Defenders of the Fatherland" fund. Special sleds and a set of equipment, including helmets, sticks, gloves, and training uniforms, are issued to veterans of the special military operation with disabilities as a technical means of rehabilitation. The head of the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the "Defenders of the Fatherland" fund, Ekaterina Generalova, reported that team sports contribute to the development of communication and help overcome social isolation. According to her, the fund, together with the regional Ministry of Sports, assists team members with any arising issues. The adaptive hockey team "Storm" was created under the supervision of the president of the Russian Adaptive Hockey Federation Dmitry Dronov with the support of the Ministry of Sports of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The team may include discharged veterans of the special military operation with disabilities, who can contact their social coordinator at the "Defenders of the Fatherland" fund. Creating conditions for veterans of the special military operation to engage in sports is carried out within the framework of the state program "Sport of Russia," launched in 2025. The program aims to develop sports infrastructure, conduct mass events, promote adaptive and children's sports, as well as revive the "Ready for Labor and Defense" complex. The state fund "Defenders of the Fatherland" was established by the decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. It is headed by the state secretary - deputy minister of defense of the Russian Federation Anna Tsivilova. The fund provides personal support to veterans of the special military operation and their families, including medical and social rehabilitation, retraining, employment, legal support, housing adaptation, and long-term home care. The fund's branches operate in all regions of Russia.
