Rare birds from Armenia were not allowed into the Nizhny Novgorod region.
On May 28, 2026, at 07:00, Society In the Nizhny Novgorod airport, an attempt to import a batch of exotic birds with improper documents was prevented. This was reported by the Rosselkhoznadzor Administration for the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Mari El and Mordovia republics. On May 20, agency employees conducted a veterinary inspection of the arriving live cargo and identified eight specially protected birds in the batch. Among them were various species of macaws, a palm vulture, a crowned eagle, and a circus eagle. During the inspection, it was revealed that the veterinary certificates were not filled out according to the rules. The documents lacked marks for laboratory tests for ornithosis and avian influenza. There was also no identification data for the birds—neither microchips nor rings. Furthermore, information about the origin of the birds from disease-free territories was not provided. As a result of the inspection, the birds were not allowed into the Nizhny Novgorod region and were handed over to the carrier for return flight to Armenia. It was previously reported that nearly 20 tons of contaminated Beijing cabbage from Kazakhstan were discovered in the Nizhny Novgorod region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
