"City of Health" on the territory of the Semashko Hospital

      The Nizhny Novgorod region has signed a contract for the construction of a new surgical building with a polyclinic as part of the flagship regional project "City of Health." The building will be located on the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N. A. Semashko. The commissioning of the building will significantly improve the quality and speed of medical assistance to patients with oncological diseases, as well as implement new high-tech medical technologies into practice.

      With the support of the Russian government and the Ministry of Health, the "City of Health" project is being implemented on the initiative of the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin. The goal is to concentrate the maximum number of types of high-tech medicine for adult patients in a single framework – on the territories of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N. A. Semashko and the neighboring N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology – "Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary." The initiative has received support from the Russian government and the Ministry of Health of Russia. It is included in the program for the implementation of the national project "Sustained and Active Life." More than 16.7 billion rubles will be allocated for the construction of the surgical building, of which over 10.3 billion rubles will come from the federal budget and more than 6.4 billion rubles from the regional budget. The "City of Health" project includes the creation of a Nuclear Medicine Center with a cyclotron, two PET/CT systems, and an SPECT/CT system, as well as the major renovation of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N. A. Semashko and the construction of infrastructure for accommodating patients who do not require hospitalization or their relatives.

      "The capacity of the facility is colossal" – Engineering surveys and design are planned to be carried out in 2026–2027, with construction and equipping the building with modern equipment scheduled for 2028–2031. The capacity of the facility is colossal: about 100,000 hospitalizations and more than 250,000 outpatient and diagnostic visits per year, said the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin. The complex will consist of 4 to 9 floors. The building will house a round-the-clock surgical hospital with 380 beds and a day hospital for minimally invasive procedures. The operating block will include 24 operating rooms, including robotic ones. There will also be a full-cycle diagnostic block and a polyclinic department with 600 visits per shift.

      "The task of this building is to become a center for outpatient-polyclinic, diagnostic, and surgical assistance for Nizhny Novgorod residents with oncological diseases. The commissioning of the building will make patient routing even more efficient, and most importantly, reduce waiting times for surgical treatment," explained the acting director of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital named after N. A. Semashko, the chief freelance oncologist of the regional Ministry of Health, Sergey Gamayunov.
