      May 27, 2026 15:58 Incidents The administration of the Balakhna district must compensate for environmental damage exceeding 1.8 million rubles at the request of Rosprirodnadzor. The corresponding decision was made by the court, the agency's press service reported. The reason for the compensation was soil contamination due to an unauthorized dump in Balakhna. The violation was identified back in 2022 during an on-site inspection. In the area of house No. 35 on Vokzalnaya Street, specialists discovered large piles of garbage. Among the waste were metal barrels with petroleum products and contaminated soil, rubber products, solid municipal waste, and construction debris. The area of contamination exceeded 370 square meters, and the total volume of waste amounted to more than 235 cubic meters. It was established that the cluttered territory belongs to lands with undivided state ownership. By law, local self-government bodies are responsible for monitoring their condition. After reviewing the case materials, the court concluded that the district administration did not take sufficient measures to prevent the illegal use of the territory. As a result, the municipality was tasked with compensating for the environmental damage—over 1.8 million rubles. The court's decision has already come into legal force.
