Ksenia Sobchak was outraged by the court's decision in the case of the Nizhny Novgorod major.

      On May 27, 2026, at 17:10, Incidents Ksenia Sobchak commented on the situation surrounding the son of the former head of "Luidor," Sergey Kornilov, who caused a high-profile traffic accident in the center of Nizhny Novgorod. The journalist compared this story to another high-profile case. Today in Moscow, Ksenia Belousova, who prepared a hookah on an Easter cake in April, was found guilty of offending the feelings of believers. The court sentenced her to three years and 25 days in a penal colony.

      In her Telegram channel, Sobchak wrote:

      Yes, the law is the law, but it is still hard to shake off the feeling of disproportion: a young girl could have lived a normal life. Instead, she will spend three years in prison, while 21-year-old Sergey Kornilov, who claimed to be the son of a millionaire and caused a drunk driving accident in the center of Nizhny Novgorod, had his criminal case dismissed. Whose act is more socially dangerous is a rhetorical question.

      Sobchak added that she would like to see more activity from informants on issues of protecting women from domestic violence, children from abuse, and elderly people from fraudsters. In her opinion, there is significantly less zeal in these areas.

      Recall that on May 20, 21-year-old Kornilov, while in a state of alcohol intoxication, caused a mass accident on Pokhvalinsky descent. The very next day, he visited a restaurant on the Upper Volga embankment, where he continued to consume alcohol. On May 21, a representative of the establishment contacted the police, reporting a conflict between a group of young people, the restaurant administration, and journalists. It is known that Kornilov was there with a friend. Following the investigation, protocols were drawn up under Article 20.1 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation for "Petty Hooliganism."

      After the accident, two criminal cases were initiated against Kornilov—by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Investigative Committee. Later, the case initiated by the Investigative Committee was dismissed. Currently, investigators are seeking to transfer materials from the police to their jurisdiction.

      On May 26, the court chose a preventive measure for Kornilov within the framework of the criminal case. He was prohibited from using the internet, visiting bars, and performing a number of other actions. On the same day, his friend received eight days of arrest for attacking a journalist.
