In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the new season of the All-Russian project "Country of Heroes" has been launched.

On May 27, 2026, at 13:47, Society The Nizhny Novgorod region has become one of four subjects of the Russian Federation that, following the results of the competitive selection, will become venues for the All-Russian project of the Russian Military Historical Society "Country of Heroes" in the summer of 2026. The region will host two specialized camp shifts for a thousand teenagers from different subjects of the country. Participants of the first shift at the sanatorium and health educational center "Salyut" in the Gorodets municipal district are kids from 30 regions of Russia.

"Country of Heroes" unites a network of camps where 4,500 people rest annually. The program of the military-historical camp is implemented within the framework of the federal project "Family Values and Cultural Infrastructure" of the national project "Family" and aims to instill in children a sense of patriotism and respect for the history of their country.

During the ceremonial opening of the new season of the project on May 26, a ceremony of raising the flag of the Russian Federation took place, along with an introduction of participants to the instructional staff and performances by creative groups. The ceremony was attended by acting Minister of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region Mikhail Puchkov and the head of the local government of the Gorodets municipal district Alexander Mudrov.

"The fact that the shift of the All-Russian project 'Country of Heroes' is taking place in our region is a reason for pride. The Nizhny Novgorod region is hosting 500 determined, active kids from 30 regions of the country—from the Altai Territory to Sakhalin, from the LPR to Chuvashia. Over 14 days, the participants of the shift will immerse themselves in military history, master social project design skills, and undergo fire and parachute training. The kids who have come to us are a reliable support for the country, and we believe that the shift at the 'Salyut' base will give them bright emotions, new friends, and a sense of confidence in their abilities!" said Mikhail Puchkov.

Alexander Mudrov also welcomed the kids to the hospitable Gorodets land.

"When we say 'Gorodets', we imply 'history', because this is the oldest city in our Nizhny Novgorod region. Gorodets is only five years younger than Moscow, and we have the same founder—Yuri Dolgoruky. The history of Gorodets is also closely linked to the history of the holy righteous prince Alexander Nevsky, so our land is history, it is traditions. The Gorodets district also includes Zavolzhye—the youngest city in the Nizhny Novgorod region, one of the industrial centers of our region. Therefore, we successfully combine experience and youth, enthusiasm. I want to wish that this shift resonates in the soul, in the heart of each of you, and that your stay on Gorodets land will foster a desire to travel through our small towns, study the history of our great Motherland, and immerse yourselves in the Russian spirit! Congratulations on the opening of the shift!" Alexander Mudrov addressed the kids.

A welcoming address to the participants of the shift was also sent by the head of the directorate of military-historical camps of the Russian Military Historical Society, Anastasia Kiseleva.

"The main value of the 'Country of Heroes' project is that we create an environment for the kids where knowledge about the history of their country, respect for the feats of ancestors, and understanding of personal responsibility for the future of the Motherland become life guidelines. The rich program helps the kids acquire new skills, realize themselves as part of a large historical process, and as heirs of Victory. It is here, in an atmosphere of mutual assistance and high goals, that the foundation for raising true patriots, ready to serve their country, is laid," she noted.

Two shifts will take place at the sanatorium and health educational center "Salyut", each lasting 14 days and uniting 500 teenagers aged 12-17 from different regions of the country who have successfully passed the competitive selection. Participation in the shifts is free, based on a competitive basis—the application campaign is organized on the official project website.

In the new season, a rich program has been prepared for the children, including thematic areas: "Defenders", "Keepers of History", "Victory Volunteers", "Media of Victory", as well as several modules: "Military History of Russia", "Social Project Design", courses on physical training and passing the GTO standards, etc. Over the two weeks of the shift, the kids will have lectures and practical classes, historical reconstructions, sports competitions, chess tournaments, master classes, team and project activities.

A special place in the program is occupied by meetings with veterans of the special military operation, famous athletes, historians, and experts.

Participants of the shift will also be given the opportunity to get acquainted with the rich history and culture of the Nizhny Novgorod region. A traveling exhibition of folk arts and crafts of the Nizhny Novgorod region has been set up in the camp, artistic groups from city and district cultural palaces will perform on stage, and for young patriots, "Conversations about Important Matters" and meetings within the framework of the regional project "Heroes. Nizhny Novgorod Region" will also take place. A special event will be the interactive exhibition "Valery Chkalov. Life in Flight. 120 Years", prepared by the great pilot's great-grandson Igor Chkalov.

The shifts in the Nizhny Novgorod region will last until June 22. Each participant will receive a certificate, and the leaders of the shifts will be awarded diplomas.
