A criminal case has been opened following the death of two women in a fire in Zavolzhye.

      On May 27, 2026, at 12:25 PM, a criminal case has been initiated in Zavolzhye regarding the death of two women in a nighttime fire. As reported by the press service of the regional Investigative Committee, the investigation is being conducted on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - causing death by negligence to two individuals.

      Recall that the fire occurred on May 27 in a garden house located in the territory of the gardening partnership "Named after Timiryazev" in Zavolzhye. According to the agency, the fire was noticed by the 37-year-old owner of the house. She managed to warn her husband, who took their 4-year-old daughter out of the burning building. The woman herself and her 76-year-old mother were unable to leave the house. After extinguishing the fire, employees of the regional emergency management agency discovered their bodies.

      A fire-technical examination has been appointed to determine the causes of the fire. Preliminary findings suggest that the tragedy may have occurred due to improper installation or malfunction of the stove. An investigator from the Investigative Committee of Russia is conducting necessary investigative actions aimed at clarifying all the circumstances of the incident.
