Victory volunteers will improve the grounds of 26 Nizhny Novgorod churches.

      On May 25, 2026, at 22:02, the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory," in collaboration with the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis and with the support of the regional government, continues the implementation of the social project "Shrines of Nizhny Novgorod Land." In 2026, volunteers plan to carry out work at 26 churches of the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis.

      Last year, the Volunteers of Victory participated in the improvement of 10 churches in the region. The project, aimed at preserving historical and spiritual heritage, assisting in the improvement and cleaning of churches throughout the region, received a wide response from the residents of the area and support from the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolis. This year, restoration work will take place in several deaneries and dioceses — in the Lyskovsky, Arzamas, Borsky, Distant Konstantinovsky, and other districts.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese, there is a program for the restoration or conservation of destroyed churches, which is given great importance. Therefore, the project "Shrines of Nizhny Novgorod Land" was blessed by Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, wishing the volunteers success in their good work.

      The first site for work this season was the church in honor of the Ascension of the Lord in the village of Yelkhovka in the Vadsky district. Volunteers, together with priest Bogdan Pikun, cut down the overgrown bushes on the adjacent territory and inside the church, removed all construction and other debris, and also conducted a thorough cleaning of the area around the church.

      Along with the Volunteers of Victory, participants in the educational spiritual and moral program KUPNO "United in Faith!" and the "Women's Leadership. Nizhny Novgorod Region" program took part in the work.

      The second "volunteer landing" took place at two Nizhny Novgorod churches — the church in honor of the Life-Giving Trinity in the village of Borisovo Pole in the Vadsky district and the church in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the village of Ikonnikovo in the Gorodetsky district. There, volunteers tidied up the adjacent territory, removed dead wood and debris.

      "The project 'Shrines of Nizhny Novgorod Land' is not just cleaning and improvement. It is our common opportunity to touch the history of our native land. Faith and the history of Russia are inseparable from each other. I am glad that more and more people want to participate in the project," said Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the "Volunteers of Victory."
