The number of inclusive shifts in Nizhny Novgorod camps will increase by 14.5% in 2026.
May 25, 2026 15:07 Society The summer health campaign will start in the Nizhny Novgorod region on June 1. In 2026, nearly 1,120 children's recreation and health organizations will operate in the region, the regional government reported. Special attention in the new season will be given to the development of inclusive programs. The number of shifts for children with disabilities will increase by 14.5% compared to last year. This summer, camps will host more than 7,000 children with disabilities and special needs. In total, more than 162,000 schoolchildren and kindergarten pupils aged 6.5 to 17 will have the opportunity to undergo health improvement and recreation. Almost 142,000 children will spend their holidays in camps within the region, while more than 20,000 will go outside its borders. It is planned that more than 840 camps with daytime and round-the-clock accommodation, 200 labor and recreation camps, over 50 country health-educational and sanatorium centers, as well as more than 20 tent camps will operate. The Minister of Education of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Mikhail Puchkov, noted at a meeting of the social committee of the Legislative Assembly that by the start of the campaign, the dining blocks, sleeping quarters, and sports grounds in 23 country camps were updated at the expense of the regional budget. Three more centers received federal subsidies to create more comfortable conditions for children with disabilities and special needs. By 2030, all camps in the region are expected to become fully accessible for such children. More than 25,000 specialists will be involved in organizing summer recreation: nearly 6,500 educators, over 4,500 teachers, about 500 psychologists and other support specialists, more than 1,100 medical workers, as well as administrative and technical staff. Special attention has been paid to the training of counselors—this is handled by five educational organizations in the region, and nearly 1,700 counselors will work in the camps. Preparation for the season is underway as part of the national project "Youth and Children." Earlier, Rospotrebnadzor provided recommendations for parents before sending their children to camps.
