The design code will be approved for six streets in Nizhny Novgorod in 2026.

      May 22, 2026 18:30 Society The deputies of the permanent commission of the Nizhny Novgorod City Duma on urban planning and architecture discussed the work on improving the city's external appearance and enhancing the quality of the urban environment. The meeting took place on May 22 under the chairmanship of Alexander Petrov.

      As reported by Alla Konovitsyna, the director of the Department of Urban Development and Architecture, specialists reviewed more than 4,800 comprehensive design projects and issued over 19,000 approval sheets for the placement of informational structures. In addition, architectural and artistic concepts for 52 streets have already been approved in the city.

      According to her, in 2026, it is planned to develop concepts for Korolenko, Studenaya, Ilyinskaya, and Dobrolyubov streets in the Nizhny Novgorod district, as well as for 40 Years of October Street and Captain Rachkov Avenue in the Kstovo district.

      Alla Konovitsyna noted that special attention is being paid to the adjustment of already approved concepts. She explained that with each passing year, the documents become more detailed. If previously they mainly defined the locations and methods of execution for signs, now they include requirements for the height of informational structures, letter sizes, recommendations for fonts, color solutions, lighting, materials, and the design of entrance groups.

      The department director also reported that over the past year, 4,256 illegally installed or improperly placed informational structures were identified and dismantled in the city. In addition, specialists worked on the requirements for the appearance of non-stationary trading facilities.

      Separately, the deputies considered the issue of placing fencing devices on municipal lands, which was added to the agenda at the initiative of deputy Yulia Manturova. Alla Konovitsyna clarified that different types of fencing are provided for different types of land plots, differing in height, materials, functionality, and service life.

      She added that specific requirements apply to construction sites and places where repair work is conducted. The landscaping rules also define the appearance of fences for preschool and educational institutions, parks, squares, cemeteries, sports grounds, and dog walking areas.

      Among the main prohibitions are the use of fences made from improvised materials, garbage, and unprocessed boards, as well as the placement of barbed wire on them.

      As a result of the discussion, the deputies took the information into account.
