      May 22, 2026 15:00 Society The library of the working settlement of Vilya in Vyksa has become the winner of the first All-Russian competition "Library System". The institution was recognized in the nomination "Library of Innovations" and will receive a grant for the implementation of the project "Traditions at Home - Longevity in It". The competition was organized by PJSC "MTS", the charitable foundation "System", and the Russian State Library. Its goal is to support libraries and staff in rural settlements, as well as in small and medium-sized cities with a population of up to 100,000 people. The initiative aims to develop libraries as modern centers of education, culture, and public life, as well as to promote digital solutions and enhance the prestige of the librarian profession. The project started in March and received responses from 78 regions of the country. In total, the organizers reviewed more than a thousand applications and portfolios. The Nizhny Novgorod region was among the leaders in the number of submitted projects - 34 applications were submitted from the region. The works were evaluated by independent experts from leading libraries and specialized non-profit, public, and educational organizations. The total prize fund amounted to 7.9 million rubles. Grants were awarded to four libraries in the nomination "Library of Innovations", three in the category "Lines of Childhood", as well as 15 librarians for their personal contribution to the development of the industry. In Vilya, the funds will be directed to the implementation of the project "Traditions at Home - Longevity in It". It is aimed at improving the quality of life for elderly residents through engagement in educational and recreational activities, as well as organizing a folklore festival. The director of MTS in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Andrey Belov, emphasized that the implementation of digital technologies remains one of the key areas of the company's work even in remote settlements. "That is why, together with partners, we initiated this competition: to support regional libraries and their teams, to help them become modern centers of enlightenment, education, and public life with the help of digital solutions and modern equipment. In addition, MTS is actively developing mobile communication in remote areas of the Nizhny Novgorod region, so that even in the most remote villages and settlements, people have access to modern digital services. Thanks to the grant, the library in the working settlement of Vilya will be able to implement digital formats of work with the audience; organize events for elderly residents," he noted.
