Nizhny Novgorod residents were explained whether the absence of the internet will affect fare payment.
May 22, 2026 11:33 Society The lack of mobile internet in Nizhny Novgorod will not affect the ability to pay for travel using a terminal in the cabin. The preparation for the ban on cash payments in public transport starting from July 1, 2026, was discussed at a meeting of the relevant committee of the ZSNO. Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways of the region Denis Ryabinin reminded that passengers can choose several methods of cashless payment. These include bank and transport cards, a virtual card on Android smartphones, as well as a resident card of the Nizhny Novgorod region. In addition, QR codes can be found in the cabins, and remote payment is available in the mobile application "Nizhny Novgorod Region. Transport." Cash can be used to top up the transport card at "Siticard" offices, Russian Post branches, or printing kiosks. Furthermore, negotiations are currently underway with RZD, "Spar," and "Magnit" regarding the organization of card sales. At the same time, the new measure will not be affected by restrictions on mobile internet operation - payment for travel through the terminal in the cabin occurs in offline mode. In this case, having a connection does not matter. Similar measures are already being implemented in other regions, particularly in the Moscow region, and their legality has been confirmed by court rulings. Regional legislation does not restrict citizens' right to pay in cash, but merely moves the location of such payments outside the vehicle cabin, the ZSNO press service emphasized. Earlier, we reported that the color scheme for taxis was proposed to be expanded in the Nizhny Novgorod region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
