Nizhny Novgorod residents participate in the project "Holidays in Families" for orphaned children.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the "Holidays in Families" project has been launched to support orphans and children left without parental care. It involves the temporary placement of children raised in social institutions into families for weekends or for a longer period during the summer. The project was developed by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod region as part of the implementation of the national project "Family." The initiative aims to promote family-based care for children from social institutions.

      As noted by Elena Leonova, the Deputy Minister of Social Development and Family Policy of the region, it is very important for orphans to learn to trust adults. "Summer holidays are approaching—a time when the warmth of family gatherings, the care of loved ones, and the comfort of home are especially valued. For orphans, holidays or even just weekends spent in a full family are lessons in social adaptation in the real world. Such experiences expand the circle of positive social contacts, provide an understanding of life in a family setting, and help develop everyday interaction skills. I am sure that many caring residents of Nizhny Novgorod will respond to the ministry's initiative and support our kids!" said Elena Leonova.

      The ministry reported that participation in the project does not require training at the "School for Foster Parents." Potential participants will need to contact the guardianship authorities at their place of residence with a package of required documents (a copy of the passport, a medical certificate, and a certificate of no criminal record), undergo an assessment of living conditions, and receive a conclusion on the possibility of taking a child on a "guest mode." After that, they should contact any children's home in the region to meet the child in person. The recommended age for participating children is from 10 years and older.       The ministry emphasized that during the child's stay in the family, they will be timely provided with food and clothing from the social institution. During this period, there will also be interaction between the adults participating in the project and the staff of social institutions to provide families with all necessary assistance and support.

      Let us remind you that the national project "Family" includes activities aimed at the comprehensive development of families: expanding support measures, creating conditions for active longevity of the older generation, and ensuring quality and accessible medical care. National projects are being implemented in the country by the order of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

      The period from 2025 to 2030 has also been declared in the region as the Five-Year Family Initiative by the decision of the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin.
