Volga Day: United Russia activists held community clean-up events along the riverbanks.
On May 20, 2026, at 16:53, Society A large-scale environmental action for cleaning and improving the coastal area of the Volga River took place in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The work brought together several hundred activists from "United Russia" and "Young Guard," volunteers, deputies, and party supporters. The central event was the cleaning of the banks of the Rowing Canal in Nizhny Novgorod. "May 20 is celebrated as Volga Day in Russia. For us, this holiday is part of the systematic work of the party project 'Clean Country.' Today we are putting things in order at one of the most popular recreation spots for Nizhny Novgorod residents. The environmental agenda is about concrete actions. Anyone can contribute: join a cleanup, report an unauthorized dump, plant a tree. Cleanliness starts with each of us. Today's team is living proof of that," noted Dmitry Filipenko, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional executive committee of the "United Russia" party. Activists collected several dozen bags of garbage in just a few hours: plastic bottles, glass, polyethylene bags, and other waste. Volunteers also cut down dry branches from shrubs and cleared access to the water. Young Guard members from the Nizhny Novgorod region joined the ecological action on Volga River Day. The activists went out to clean the coastal area to contribute to nature conservation and remind everyone of the importance of caring for the environment. During the action, participants collected trash, cleaned the shoreline, and tidied up the area. The Volga is not only a symbol of our country but also a vital natural artery, the state of which affects the ecological well-being of millions of people. That is why such initiatives are especially important for fostering an ecological culture among the youth. Roman Zykov, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Young Guard of United Russia, noted: "Caring for nature starts with simple but important actions. Today, the young guards are showing by example that preserving the cleanliness of the Volga banks is the responsibility of each of us. Such actions unite youth around useful initiatives and help make our region cleaner and more comfortable." The Young Guard of United Russia will continue to hold environmental events and support projects aimed at preserving the environment and developing ecological volunteering. The ecological action on Volga Day was part of the party project "Clean Country" by United Russia. It unites the efforts of the party, government bodies, ecologists, volunteers, and public figures to address environmental issues. The "Clean Country" project aims to improve the quality of the environment and engage citizens in environmental protection efforts. Among its tasks are raising ecological culture, improving the state of water bodies and air quality, preserving forest resources, developing a circular economy, as well as public and party control over the implementation of the environmental agenda.
