Biden's former assistant expressed a desire to move to Nizhny Novgorod.
May 20, 2026 16:56 Society NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" - Maria Orlova Former assistant to ex-U.S. President Joe Biden, Tara Reade, participated in the panel discussion "Woman of the New Code: Soft Power in an Era of Change" at CIPR (12+). During the session organized by the "OKA" agency, she spoke about moving to Russia, obtaining citizenship, and admitted that she would like to live in the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to Reade, in 2023 she came to Moscow on vacation and initially did not plan to stay in the country for long.
"Then it became clear that I could not return to the United States, otherwise I would be arrested. I came and participated in a show with my friend Maria Butina on Channel One. I was an informant regarding the Biden regime," she stated.
Reade claims that after this, resources from American media, the Department of Justice, and the FBI were allegedly used against her. According to her, at that time she sought advice from State Duma deputy Maria Butina regarding asylum. Reade also mentioned that she received support from RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan. Over time, Reade noted, she did not want to return to the U.S. even after the change of power.
"When Donald Trump became president, and the Biden regime was overthrown, I could have returned. But I preferred to apply for Russian citizenship," Reade said.
She added that the Russian president's decree granting her citizenship was a "great honor and a big responsibility" for her. Reade also shared that she was warmly welcomed in Russia, despite not being widely known in the U.S. She is currently working in the media sphere at RT, running a blog, and writing books. According to Reade, her decision to stay in Russia was received ambiguously by her relatives. Her daughter and brother supported her, but part of the family ceased communication with her. Reade attributes this to Russophobia in the West. She also shared her impressions of life in Russia and the differences between the two countries. Reade stated that she continues to love America, but feels free in Russia and can calmly engage in creativity and professional activities.
"In America, politicians do not care about their citizens. Even Donald Trump. In Russia, I see a leader who truly loves the Russian people, honors traditional values, and protects his citizens," she stated.
After the discussion, a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" spoke with Tara Reade personally. She mentioned that she had already been to the capital of the Volga region and considers the area as a possible place to live.
"I have been here before, rode the cable car. I told the director of the 'OKA' agency, Yakob Pinneker, that I want to return here and possibly settle down. It is a very beautiful place," Reade said.
According to her, the Nizhny Novgorod region attracts her with its nature and the opportunity to find a balance between urban life and tranquility.
"Here, unlike Moscow, which is very noisy and large, you can find that balance. I love gardening and want to get a horse," she noted.
Reade also spoke positively about the work of the Nizhny Novgorod agency "OKA," which helps foreigners moving to Russia. It is worth noting that recently Elon Musk's father visited Nizhny Novgorod. At a meeting with journalists, he stated that everything he was told about Russia turned out to be untrue. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
