Zebras, capybaras, and penguins are preparing to become parents at the "Limpopo" zoo.
May 18, 2026 13:49 Society NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" - Polina Zubova Several inhabitants of the Nizhny Novgorod zoo "Limpopo" are preparing for the arrival of offspring. The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" reported on the future and already existing additions in the land of animals and birds.
In the near future, the parents may include a Chapman’s zebra named Marty, a couple of meerkats, and Humboldt penguins. The female penguin is already incubating eggs. However, it is impossible to determine in advance whether they are fertilized. Specialists explain that young females often lay unfertilized eggs, and for this female, the current eggs are her first.
Meanwhile, several joyful events have already occurred at the zoo. Offspring have appeared from the Japanese cranes Futo and Iwaki. The pair has welcomed two chicks.
Additionally, two babies have been born to the ring-tailed lemurs. There has also been an addition to the lemurs of the species Vare: they have given birth to five babies, who are currently clinging to their mothers' backs. The sex of all the newborns has not yet been determined.
A special event was the birth of another aardvark. Last year, a baby named Hiba was born at "Limpopo," and this year she has a brother or sister. Due to the fact that adult aardvarks are quite large and not very graceful in their movements, the staff is feeding the little one for his safety. His sex has also not yet been determined.
