MegaFon launched a pilot air quality monitoring system in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On May 18, 2026, at 13:32, Society In Nizhny Novgorod, a pilot system for continuous monitoring of air quality has been launched. The project was implemented by MegaFon based on a solution from the Belarusian company "R-NOX" and was presented at the CIPR 2026 conference. The first measurement complex in the city, combined with the operator's telecom equipment, is installed on a multifunctional pole on Pokhvalinsky descent - one of the major highways in the historical part of the city. The equipment consists of three blocks: a gas analyzer, a weather station, and a power and data transmission module.

      The system automatically analyzes the composition and concentration of gases, including carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), as well as data on air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind direction, and speed.

      All parameters can be monitored online - data is transmitted to the digital platform "MegaFon Ecology." The collected information is processed by mathematical analysis algorithms: an assessment of the current situation is formed, a short-term forecast is made, and in the near future, a model of possible emission sources will also appear.

      Today, similar eco-monitoring systems are already successfully operating in Moscow, as well as in several regions of Russia and Belarus. The stability of the equipment has been tested in extreme climatic zones, including the desert of the United Arab Emirates and the freezing conditions of Antarctica.

      "MegaFon has a whole pool of modern solutions for monitoring industrial emissions and discharges for mining and manufacturing enterprises, as well as systems for monitoring the environment of urban areas and sanitary zones of industrial enterprises. Such solutions allow not only to register deviations but also to use the data for preventive responses and management decision-making," emphasized Andrey Kuznetsov, director of corporate business products at MegaFon.

      The "MegaFon Ecology" platform is the operator's own patented development. It is currently used in many cities in Russia, including Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Omsk, Kaluga, Cherepovets, etc.
