Nizhny Novgorod residents were informed about the details of the new law for drunk drivers.
On May 16, 2026, at 11:18 AM, Society The State Duma adopted a bill simplifying the documentation process for identifying intoxicated drivers. Now, inspectors will be able to record the suspension from driving a vehicle without creating numerous intermediate documents. Instead, it will be sufficient to draw up a protocol or make a record indicating the time, place, reason, and other data. This innovation aims to accelerate the procedure and reduce the bureaucratic burden on drivers.
Auto lawyer Lev Voropaev stated in a conversation with 360.ru that the changes will have a positive impact on motorists. They will be able to understand more quickly and easily what is happening at each stage of the inspection. The innovation will also reduce the number of necessary documents, simplifying the process for inspectors.
However, there are some nuances to consider. For example, the protocol for suspension from driving will disappear from the procedure. Previously, it detailed the signs on the basis of which the inspection was conducted. Now, inspectors will have to find other ways to record this data.
The protocol for the detention of the vehicle will also disappear. It indicated that the car had no damage at the time of detention. Now, drivers will need to be more attentive and may need to demand confirmation from inspectors of the absence of damage when handing over the vehicle to the impound lot.
Despite these changes, the essence of the alcohol testing will remain the same. The main difference is the reduction in the time that drivers will spend waiting for documentation to be processed. This will allow them to return to their affairs more quickly.
Recall that since the beginning of 2026, 3,311 drivers with signs of intoxication have been held accountable in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
It was previously reported that in the Nizhny Novgorod region, 58 people received payments for reports of drunk drivers. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
