VTB recorded an increase in interest among Nizhny Novgorod residents in savings accounts.
May 14, 2026 10:23 Economy VTB notes the interest of Nizhny Novgorod residents in savings accounts: amid the decline in the key rate, depositors have started to massively transfer their savings into more flexible instruments, the bank's press service reported. The total amount of funds in savings accounts in the Nizhny Novgorod region has increased by 24% since the beginning of the year, reaching 38.8 billion rubles. The key rate of the Bank of Russia has dropped over the past year from a peak of 21% to 14.5% in May 2026. The average maximum rate on ruble deposits in the top 10 Russian banks attracting the largest volume of individual deposits was 13.06% at the beginning of May, according to data from the Bank of Russia's monitoring. According to Frank RG's monitoring data, the average maximum rate on deposits in the ten largest banks was 10.65% by May. At the same time, savings accounts demonstrate higher yields in some banks. "We are seeing an increase in interest in savings accounts since the beginning of 2026. This product works like an electronic wallet, but due to the capitalization of interest, it often provides a higher yield than traditional deposits. Savings accounts allow for withdrawals and deposits at any time. Separate accounts can be used for different purposes. This is a simple and convenient tool that is currently experiencing a renaissance," said VTB manager in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Vsevolod Yevstigneev. The bank expects that the trend of funds flowing into savings accounts will strengthen in the second half of 2026 against the backdrop of expected further easing of monetary policy.
