Nizhny Novgorod residents are invited to join the all-Russian competition "Family Capital of Russia."

May 14, 2026 13:29 Society Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region can participate in the "Family Capital of Russia" competition (12+), which is being implemented as part of the national project "Family." The application submission on the event's website will last until June 21, 2026. The initiator of the event is the State Council's commission on the "Family" direction with the support of the Ministry of Labor. The organization of the competition was discussed at the State Council's commission on the "Family" direction. As reported by the commission's chairman Artem Zudinov, the competition is supported by President Vladimir Putin. "The attitude of society, the implementation of federal programs and projects, the presence of comfortable infrastructure, and the maximum involvement of everyone greatly influence families' decisions to have children. All these criteria will be included in a checklist for municipal and regional leaders, which will be used to evaluate all areas within the competition and will help participating regions catch up with the best," noted Artem Zudinov. Teams from urban districts—administrative centers of subjects of the Russian Federation, as well as other urban districts with a population of at least 100,000 people, are invited to participate. An expert commission will analyze the documentation submitted by participants and conduct inspection visits. Ten finalists will be determined by August, and the winner will be announced by October. The title of "Family Capital of Russia" will be awarded annually in the country. Competition winners will not be able to be nominated again for three years. "The competition is supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives; thank you very much for that!" said Artem Zudinov. Contestants will be evaluated based on a number of indicators. Among them are birth rate dynamics, the number of large families, and marriage stability. The availability of family infrastructure in cities will also be taken into account. In addition, the decision-making process will be influenced by the system of family support measures, and the information policy aimed at forming a positive image of family and large families. "We have a special year—the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. And, announcing this year, the president said that Russia is a family of families. We are launching the wonderful competition 'Family Capital of Russia,' which has received support from the State Council of the Russian Federation for the national project 'Family.' This was preceded by serious discussions. Such a family capital can be Russian cities with a population of over 100,000 people, but the main thing is that these are cities with convenient and comfortable infrastructure for families," emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, who participated in the launch of the competition. The competition aims to stimulate the activity of municipalities in creating comfortable conditions for parents, including future ones, improving the quality of life for families with children, and spreading successful experiences in supporting large families. "The decision to have a child is an individual choice for each family, which is formed by a certain set of factors. For each family, these arguments in favor of having a child are their own. But none of them can be ignored. For a long time, there has been a belief that demographic support lies exclusively in the realm of social policy—benefits, payments. But modern research shows that the set of metrics influencing a family's decision is much broader. Our common task is to create all the necessary conditions so that families with children and future parents can freely realize their desire to have children. We are consistently involving regions, employers, and now municipalities in the implementation of demographic policy. The extent to which our cities and towns are oriented towards the interests and needs of families with children often determines the decision to have another child. I am confident that this competition will become an excellent platform for exchanging best practices and replicating successful experiences across the country," said Anton Kotyakov, head of the Ministry of Labor. Among the finalists, in addition to the winner, prizewinners will be selected in several nominations: "City of Future Generations," "City for Large Families," "Flagship of Large Families," "City of Happy Parenting," "City of Family Stability." "Such large-scale competitions as 'Family Capital of Russia' should take place precisely in the regions, as this provides the maximum effect for exchanging and implementing the best initiatives," emphasized Sergey Rybalchenko, chairman of the Public Chamber of Russia's commission on demographics, family protection, children, and traditional family values, who has been appointed chairman of the expert commission of the competition.
