On May 12, 2026, at 09:46, the economy of the Nizhny Novgorod region ranked 27th in the rating of Russian regions for electricity accessibility, prepared by analysts from RIA Novosti. The study showed that an average resident of the region can purchase 12,638 kilowatt-hours of electricity with their average monthly net salary. The national average for this indicator is 14,649 kWh. The cost of electricity for apartments without electric stoves, with a minimum consumption volume in March 2026, in the Nizhny Novgorod region was 556 rubles per 100 kWh. The average tariff across Russia is 595 rubles per 100 kWh. Since December 2025, the price of one kilowatt-hour in the region has increased by 1.6%, while the overall increase in the country was 1.8%. The Irkutsk region took first place in the ranking. With the average net salary in March, one could purchase 45,997 kWh here. Analysts explain this by the lowest electricity cost in the country—1.8 rubles per kilowatt-hour. At the bottom of the list were regions with higher electricity costs and relatively low salaries. The last positions were occupied by the Ivanovo region and Kalmykia.
