      May 12, 2026 17:19 Incidents The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, has instructed on the criminal case initiated after reports of illegal actions against the residents of one of the rehabilitation centers in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The complaint was submitted to the head of the agency through his reception on "VKontakte." Former residents reported that from September 2024 to December 2025, they were systematically subjected to beatings and humiliation by the staff of the institution. According to them, among the victims were minors. The authors of the complaint claim that they were unlawfully restricted in their freedom of movement, and money was fraudulently taken from them. In addition, the applicants pointed to unsanitary conditions of detention and the lack of necessary medical assistance. The regional department of the Investigative Committee reported that the criminal case has been under investigation since December 2025. Alexander Bastrykin instructed the head of the regional department, Ayrat Akhmetshin, to intensify work on the case and present a report on the investigative actions taken and the circumstances established, taking into account the arguments presented in the victims' complaint. The execution of the instruction has been put under control at the central office of the agency. It was previously reported that a criminal case is also being investigated in the Nizhny Novgorod region following complaints from patients of the "Rassvet" rehabilitation center network.
