Nizhny Novgorod region sent more than a thousand gifts to the DPR for Victory Day.
May 9, 2026 17:25 Society Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, participants of the Special Military Operation, and their families in the DPR received more than a thousand gifts for Victory Day from the Nizhny Novgorod region. The sets included food products and watches with Victory symbols. The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, noted that congratulating the heroes of Donbass on Victory Day has become a good tradition. This year, gifts were sent to veterans, participants of the Special Military Operation, and their families in Khartsyzsk, Ilovaisk, and Mangush.
"During the Great Patriotic War, our grandfathers and great-grandfathers stood shoulder to shoulder to defend the freedom and independence of the Motherland. And today, their descendants continue this noble mission with honor and valor, defending the values for which our heroes fought during the years of the Great Patriotic War. We are proud of our common history and our common Great Victory!" emphasized the head of our region.
Currently, volunteers from the Nizhny Novgorod House of National Unity are in the DPR on a humanitarian mission. They visit veterans, soldiers, and their families. For instance, they visited the only front-line soldier of the Great Patriotic War in Khartsyzsk, Afanasy Kharlampievich Demishev. He fought in rifle and Cossack regiments since 1943, reached Hungary, where he celebrated Victory Day. At 101 years old, he maintains his spirit and interest in life: he personally met the volunteers and thanked them for their attention, as well as shared his journey, meetings with Marshal Budyonny, and post-war work in a collective farm.
The Deputy Head of the Ilovaisk Urban District Administration, Elena Doroshilova, thanked our region for its patronage.
"Our city is small but heroic, having endured many hardships. Currently, there are seven veterans of the Great Patriotic War living in Ilovaisk. They were very happy and touched by such attention. Gifts were also given to participants of the Special Military Operation and their families. Thank you for remembering and valuing the feat of our heroes," emphasized Elena Doroshilova.
In Mangush, volunteers congratulate veterans and participate in festive events. They also visited a military unit in the DPR and handed out postcards, badges made from St. George ribbons, and chevrons from the residents of Nizhny Novgorod. Let us remind you that the volunteer center of the House of National Unity was created to assist the residents of the DPR with the support of the Nizhny Novgorod regional government.
