Nizhny Novgorod residents participating in the special military operation are being assisted with employment.

On May 5, 2026, at 18:33, Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a comprehensive support system for participants of the special military operation is in place, including assistance with employment and professional adaptation, reports pravda-nn.ru. One of those who took advantage of this opportunity is 47-year-old veteran of the special military operation Dmitry Pankratov. Before his service, he was engaged in cargo transportation, but after returning, he decided to change his field of activity. "I was lucky: I learned about the Nizhny Novgorod personnel center 'Work of Russia' and thanks to it, I have already undergone additional training," he said. Following the advice of specialists, Dmitry also began training under the national project "Personnel" and plans to become a physical education and sports instructor-methodologist. This direction is connected to his past: he previously played professional hockey, now he coaches a children's team and plays sled hockey as part of the "Shchurm" team. In addition, he heads one of the branches of the Association of Veterans of the Special Military Operation and helps other fighters with paperwork, payments, and job searches. As specialists note, more than half of the participants of the special military operation return to their previous jobs. Those who want to change professions are assisted at the personnel center "Work of Russia," where the "one-stop shop" principle and priority service are in place. "Our main goal is for participants of the special military operation to feel protected and in demand in civilian life upon their return," emphasized the Minister of Demography and Human Capital Development of the region, Igor Pantyukhin. The center's specialists select vacancies or offer free retraining considering the person's health status, skills, and plans. Training is conducted in a list of 186 in-demand professions, including 27 additional areas for veterans of the special military operation. Support also extends to the families of servicemen. The region is implementing the project "Women of Participants of the Special Military Operation," as well as joint initiatives with the "Defenders of the Fatherland" fund. "One of the flagship projects is 'Create Your Career,' " noted Alexander Konnov, head of the direction for the socialization of participants of the special military operation and their family members at the regional ministry of demography and human capital development and the Nizhny Novgorod personnel center "Work of Russia." Each participant is assigned a career consultant, and training and consultations are conducted. Those who want to start their own business are helped to register as self-employed or as an individual entrepreneur, as well as to receive up to 350,000 rubles under a social contract. Just last year, the personnel center provided over a thousand support measures to participants of the special military operation and their families. Additionally, a military social contract is in place in the region, providing for housing and utility compensation, benefits for children, and other forms of assistance.
