A world-class center for the study of longevity will be established in Nizhny Novgorod.
Nizhny Novgorod State University named after Lobachevsky has achieved a strategic victory in the "third wave" competition, reported the university rector Oleg Trofimov. A world-class scientific center called "Medicine of Healthy Longevity and Cognitive Technologies" will be established at the university. It will serve as a platform for developing solutions aimed at extending human active life. The center's researchers will focus on issues related to controlling the aging process, maintaining brain youth, and preventing neurodegenerative diseases. It is expected that as a result of the work, personalized aging diagnosis models will be created. There are also plans to develop high-tech medical devices for early correction of brain function disorders and to implement methods for managing biological age. The project has received significant government support. Funding of 1.16 billion rubles is allocated for its implementation from 2026 to 2030. The center will become part of a nationwide system focused on the development of longevity technologies. To achieve the set goals, Nizhny Novgorod State University will collaborate with Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Russian Center for Neurology, and the B.V. Petrovsky Research Center for Surgery. The technologies being developed are planned to be implemented in 500 regional divisions of longevity medicine, which will start functioning as early as 2027. The head of the center, director of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Aging Biology Mikhail Ivanchenko emphasized: "We have an ambitious task ahead of us - not only to study aging but also to implement technologies for managing biological age. Our work will help achieve the national goal of increasing life expectancy to 78 years by 2030. This is a contribution to the preservation of human life across the country." It was previously reported that an AI for diagnosing traumatic brain injuries is being developed in Nizhny Novgorod. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
