In the Nizhny Novgorod region, a record low level of HIV infection incidence has been registered. The indicator for 2025 reached a historical minimum, reported the editor-in-chief of MIA "Statsionar-Press," Alexey Nikonov. Over the past year, medical professionals examined 45% of the region's residents for the human immunodeficiency virus, with 935 cases confirmed. In comparison, 13 years ago, with a lower population coverage of only 20%, 2,000 new cases of HIV were identified in the region. The chief physician of the regional AIDS center, Solomon Apoyan, stated that the indicator has reached a record low value in recent decades. It is known that in 2026, 45 women with a positive HIV status became mothers. Operational chemoprophylaxis protected all babies from infection. "Only two patients did not manage to complete the full course of therapy due to the specifics of childbirth (home and emergency)," the message states.
