Smart traffic lights in Nizhny Novgorod will switch to summer mode of operation.

On April 30, 2026, at 17:28 Society In Nizhny Novgorod, a special traffic light operation mode will begin testing during periods of increased traffic load. The changes are being implemented as part of the development of an intelligent transport system and will be in effect during the May holidays, when the flow of cars out of the city traditionally increases. According to the CRTS, adjustments will affect Gagarin Avenue towards Arzamas and Bogorodsk, as well as Rodionov Street and Kazan Highway towards Kstovo. The main goal is to increase the throughput of key exits and reduce the likelihood of traffic jams. Thanks to the flexible adjustment of traffic light phases, the system will be able to quickly adapt to changing traffic density. This will reduce waiting times at intersections, decrease the number of traffic jams during peak hours, and ensure a more even flow of traffic towards suburban highways. After the updated mode is launched, specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod Transport Systems Development Center, together with the city Traffic Organization Center, will continuously analyze the situation on the roads. If problematic areas are identified, the management algorithms are planned to be further adjusted. Currently, there are 102 smart traffic light objects operating in Nizhny Novgorod as part of the national project "Infrastructure for Life." It was previously reported that over 104 million rubles will be allocated for the upgrade of traffic lights on Moscow Highway. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
