The Nizhny Novgorod health department has banned doctors from using emojis.
On April 29, 2026, at 10:15, the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region sent a letter to its subordinate institutions demanding not to use emojis when preparing medical documents. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of MIA "Statsionar-Press," Alexey Nikонов, on his MAX channel.
The agency noted that graphic symbols are increasingly appearing in electronic extracts and protocols that patients receive through the state services portal after visiting a doctor. An analysis of the used emojis showed that these are typical elements characteristic of texts created with the help of neural networks.
The use of AI in drafting protocols and conclusions is not prohibited, provided that the doctor checks the final text. However, algorithms may make mistakes in terminology or dosages, so relying entirely on them when preparing the final document is risky.
According to a survey of medical workers in the region, about 20% of respondents reported that they regularly use AI assistance when filling out documentation in clinics and hospitals. Another 30% stated that they would like to use such tools but currently lack the necessary skills.
