The poisonous wolfberry has bloomed in the forests of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
On April 26, 2026, at 15:03, the residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region were warned about the flowering of the common daphne (Daphne mezereum), more commonly known as wolf's bane. The plant was spotted by an employee of the regional forestry department while patrolling the forests.
This shrub is found in coniferous and mixed forests of the region. However, it is not listed in the regional Red Book.
Wolf's bane is considered extremely poisonous. Toxic substances are present in all parts of the plant — in the bark, leaves, flowers, and especially in the berries, where their concentration is highest.
Specialists ask residents to be cautious during walks in the forest. If you see this shrub, it is better to just observe it from a distance. It is not advisable to pick flowers or collect berries — this can be dangerous to health.
Earlier, Nizhny Novgorod residents were informed about which prohibited plants may grow in garden plots.
