Petersburg doctors saved a newborn from Nizhny Novgorod with a brain pathology.

On April 27, 2026, at 09:05, Society A three-day-old baby from Nizhny Novgorod with a severe congenital brain anomaly was successfully operated on in St. Petersburg. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of the medical publication "Stacionar-Press," Alexey Nikonov, on his Max channel. The child was diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation of the Galen vein — a dangerous pathology that disrupts blood flow in the vessels of the brain. Without urgent intervention, the chances of survival are minimal: the heart cannot withstand the increased load, and the thin vessels can rupture at any moment. The only way to save the patient was endovascular embolization. During such an operation, surgeons "glue" the pathological vessels with special coils or polymer materials. Such interventions are considered technically complex and are performed only in a few federal clinics. On April 26, the baby was successfully operated on at the Pediatric University clinic. It was previously reported that the Nizhny Novgorod child was the first in Russia to receive domestic growth hormone. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
