Nizhny Novgorod residents have been warned about the beginning of the flowering of a highly poisonous plant.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the first flowers of a dangerous plant called wolf's bane have been spotted. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Officially, the poisonous shrub is known as common daphne (Daphne mezereum), but it is commonly referred to as wolf's bane. This plant can be found in coniferous and mixed forests of the Nizhny Novgorod region – it is not included in the regional Red Book.

      Despite the beautiful flowers that attract the attention of mushroom pickers, it is not advisable to pick them, as wolf's bane is extremely poisonous. Toxins are present in all parts of the plant – in the bark, leaves, and flowers. The highest concentration of poison is found in the berries of the shrub.

      In this regard, residents of Nizhny Novgorod are warned against collecting berries or picking flowers from this plant. When encountering wolf's bane in the forest, it is better to admire it from a distance. Earlier, the website pravda-nn.ru reported that mycologist Komissarov warned that the mushrooms known as "strogies" contain a dangerous "rocket" poison.
