Agrarians of the Nizhny Novgorod region have begun spring field work.

April 25, 2026 12:10 Economy Spring fieldwork has begun in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Agricultural enterprises have started fertilizing and harrowing winter crops and perennial grasses, the regional Ministry of Agriculture reported. Last autumn, farmers sowed 238 thousand hectares of winter crops. According to monitoring results, their condition is mainly assessed as good and satisfactory. "This year's weather has made adjustments to the work schedule, and the start of spring fieldwork has shifted slightly. Nevertheless, in 27 districts, fertilization with mineral fertilizers and harrowing of crops has already begun," noted the head of the department, Nikolai Denisov. According to him, as of today, 32 thousand hectares have been treated with mineral fertilizers, which is 13.5% of the total area of winter crops. A regional headquarters has been established for the prompt resolution of current issues. Fertilization and harrowing of winter crops have begun in almost all districts of the central zone, half of the southern territories, and three districts in the north of the region. The leader in the volume of work is the Pavlovsky district, where 3.4 thousand hectares have been treated. Work on perennial grasses is being carried out in 21 municipalities, with leaders including the Bogorodsky and Dalnekonstantinovsky districts. Harrowing of fallow land has started in 15 districts. As Nikolai Denisov noted, the farms in the region are almost fully prepared for sowing. There is a necessary stock of seeds for spring cereals and legumes, as well as annual grasses. The purchase of seeds from elite farms in the region and supplies from other regions continue, while mineral fertilizers are being acquired simultaneously. The readiness of the machinery is estimated at an average of 95%. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the total sowing area for the 2026 harvest will be 1 million 43 thousand hectares. Of these, 597 thousand hectares, or 57%, will be occupied by cereals and legumes. It is planned to involve 6.1 thousand tractors, 1.9 thousand plows, 1.8 thousand cultivators and combined units, 1.8 thousand seeders, and other equipment in the work. It was previously reported that in the next two months, about 2.5 billion rubles in state support will be directed to the region's farmers. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
