The design code has been approved for Culture Street in Nizhny Novgorod.
On April 22, 2026, at 19:00, the authorities of Nizhny Novgorod approved the architectural and artistic concept for Culture Street in the Sormovsky district. The resolution was published on the city hall's website.
As noted in the materials, the conducted analysis showed an unsatisfactory state of outdoor informational design. Many structures are outdated, made from low-quality materials, and placed chaotically—without regard for the architectural and stylistic features of the buildings.
The main goal of the document is to improve the quality of the urban environment, modernize facades considering the historical features of the street, and systematize the placement of informational structures. The concept defines acceptable locations for their installation to preserve the architectural appearance of the development.
A separate block of requirements concerns color solutions. To reduce visual noise, restrictions are introduced: a single color scheme that corresponds to the building's color palette must be used on one facade. Acceptable colors are regulated by the RAL catalog. At the same time, trademarks and service marks can be placed in the registered color version.

Requirements for fonts have also been established. The use of decorative and handwritten fonts is prohibited, as well as distorting the proportions of letters and changing the spacing between characters within a single word.
The concept also regulates the design of entrance groups and window openings. A single type of doors in terms of finish, color, and glazing level must be used on one facade. It is recommended to use transparent doors on the ground floors with a glazing area of 70 to 90%. White PVC doors without decorative coating are prohibited, as well as solid metal panels on facades facing red lines.
Canopies and awnings must be placed strictly above entrances, made from a single material, and in a unified style within the building. The closure of decorative elements of the facade is not allowed.

It is prohibited to change the sizes and configuration of window openings, place advertising structures in them, and close them. The installation of blinds on the ground floors is allowed—provided there is a unified solution across the entire facade.
The document also specifies requirements for steps, ramps, and railings. Stairs must be duplicated by ramps or lifting devices, with finishes in a restrained color palette that matches the facade. Railings must be in a unified style, without solid constructions, preferably in neutral colors.
It was previously reported that grants for small businesses that bring their facilities in line with the approved architectural and artistic concept (design code) may be introduced in Nizhny Novgorod.
