Preparation for the Unified State Exam: what you can and cannot bring with you

Preparation for the Unified State Exam: what you can and cannot bring with you

April 22, 2026 15:57 Society The Unified State Exam (USE) is an important event in the life of every graduate. It not only tests knowledge but also requires attention to detail. In 2026, Rosobrnadzor prepared a list of items that can be taken to the exam. But what is allowed, and what is strictly prohibited?

What is allowed at the USE?

According to the rules established by Rosobrnadzor, all students can bring the following items with them:

      - Passport — a mandatory document for entering the examination room.

      - A black gel pen. It is allowed to have a spare pen.

      - Medications, if necessary.

      - A bottle of water.

      - Snacks: chocolate, dried fruits, a sandwich, etc.

For students with disabilities, additional technical devices may be provided that may be needed for taking the exam.

      Features for different subjects

In addition to the general list, there are rules that apply to specific subjects:

      - For the USE in biology, geography, and chemistry, a non-programmable calculator can be brought.

      - For mathematics, a ruler without reference information is allowed. For the physics exam, both a ruler and a non-programmable calculator can be brought.

      - For the USE in literature, it is allowed to use a spelling dictionary, which the school will provide on-site. Personal books and dictionaries are not recommended to be brought.

All other personal items, such as phones, tablets, headphones, etc., must be left in a designated area.

      Consequences for violations

Violating the rules at the USE can lead to serious consequences. If a student is found with prohibited items after they have passed through the frame and entered the examination room, they are usually removed from the exam. This means that the exam can only be retaken the following year, which may lead to delays in university admission.

Honored Teacher of Russia Alexander Snegurov emphasized in a comment for 360.ru that violations include not only the use of smartphones but also bringing reference materials, cheat sheets, and talking to other students. Even in the restroom, the use of these items is prohibited.

      State Duma proposal: "anti-stress kit"

Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshev proposed to expand the list of allowed items with additional means for relieving tension. This refers to simple things that do not provide any advantages in terms of results but help cope with anxiety: for example, earplugs without electronics, a small quiet anti-stress toy, or a personal talisman.

      History and innovations

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Unified State Exam. In 2026, the Federal Institute for Pedagogical Measurements approved updated control and measurement materials. Innovations affected three subjects: Russian language, literature, and computer science. Other subjects remained unchanged.
