The head of the Investigative Committee, Bastrykin, demanded a report on the cracked house in Balakhna.

      On April 20, 2026, at 15:27, Society The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, requested a report on the criminal case initiated after the partial collapse of a wall in a residential building in Balakhna. This was reported by the information center of the law enforcement agency.

      The case concerns the three-story building No. 54 on Engels Street. On April 17, a huge crack appeared on the outside of the wall, which continues to grow. Due to the threat of further destruction, a state of emergency was declared in Balakhna, and residents were evacuated. The house is planned to be recognized as emergency and residents will be relocated.

      The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Negligence." The investigation is under the control of the prosecutor's office.

      The head of the Investigative Committee instructed the acting head of the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee for the region, Alexander Dynkov, to report on the progress of the investigation and the established circumstances.

      It was previously reported that Bastrykin became interested in a dilapidated residential building from 1905 in the children's sanatorium "Roika" in Nizhny Novgorod.
