Evgeny Chintsov announced the launch of a new tradition for honoring athletes.

      On April 20, 2026, at 18:28 Sports In the City Duma of Nizhny Novgorod, another meeting of the permanent commission on patriotic education, youth policy, physical culture, and sports took place. The commission was headed by Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev.

      Before the meeting, a ceremony was held to present the Chairman of the City Duma's Gratitude Awards for high sports achievements, contributions to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, and successful performances at international competitions in 2025. Nineteen Nizhny Novgorod athletes were honored with awards.

      The Chairman of the City Duma, Evgeny Chintsov, noted that a new tradition is forming in the city — to honor the most talented athletes. According to him, sports are an important part of patriotic education, as they develop character, discipline, and determination, while international victories enhance the country's prestige and become a source of pride. "We are starting a new tradition: to recognize the most talented athletes of our city. These guys already have a whole collection of awards, but let the gratitude from the City Duma take a special place among them. This is not just a certificate - it is a sign of respect for their achievements and a powerful incentive to strive for new, greater victories. Nizhny Novgorod is proud of its athletes!" Chintsov emphasized.

      Awards were received by students from nine sports institutions: MBOU DO KSSHOR No. 1, MBOU DO SS No. 9, MBOU DO SS "Chaika," MAOU DO SS "Radiy," MAOU DO SS "Meshchera," MBOU DO SS No. 3 for chess, MAOU DO "Sports School "Sormovo" named after Yu.P. Kruglov," MBOU DO SSOR No. 13 for table tennis, and MBOU DO KSS "Nadezhda." The athletes achieved success in athletics, chess, kickboxing, Muay Thai, powerlifting, speed skating, table tennis, kyokushin, wushu, and all-style karate.

      "Public recognition of achievements is no less important for any person than professional recognition. It is not only a pleasant moment, a minute of fame on a kind of honor pedestal of the city, but also a great incentive for further development. I wish all awardees new sports and life victories!" emphasized Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev.
