A new stage of preparation for the metro pit in Nizhny Novgorod has begun.

      On April 17, 2026, at 13:41, the Society of Metro Builders began the next stage of preparing the pit behind the dead ends of the "Gorkovskaya" station in Nizhny Novgorod. From here, it is planned to start the excavation of two tunnels towards Freedom Square. This was reported by the MAX channel "Metro NN".

      It should be noted that a significant amount of work has been completed at the site. About 18,000 cubic meters of soil have been excavated, and 311 tons of metal elements of the support system, designed to strengthen the walls of the pit, have been installed.

      Recently, specialists have moved on to monolithic work. More than 115 cubic meters of concrete mix have already been laid in the area measuring 70 by 21.6 meters.

      In the future, to form the concrete trough, another 975 cubic meters of concrete will need to be poured, and the reinforcement framework will need to be completed. This will require 123 tons of metal.

      Currently, workers are laying what is known as "first concrete" at the bottom of the structure. After this, a bed will be formed on which the tunnel boring shields will be installed later.

      Before the start of these stages, the soil-cement elements at the site were examined by a specialized geological organization. Experts confirmed the reliability of the reinforcement of the starting pit's framework. A similar check was previously conducted in the pit at Freedom Square.

      It was previously reported that the construction of two new metro stations will be completed by August 2027.
