A drunk car thief without a license caused an accident on the Nizhny Novgorod highway.

      On April 17, 2026, at 13:26, Incidents occurred on the R-158 Nizhny Novgorod - Saratov highway involving a stolen vehicle. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

      According to the police, the driver of a Toyota Camry lost control while overtaking, collided with a truck, and veered into a ditch. As a result of the accident, no one was injured.

      Arriving at the scene, traffic police officers noticed clear signs of intoxication in the man. Medical examination confirmed that he was in a state of alcohol intoxication. Furthermore, it was revealed that the driver did not have a license or documents for the vehicle.

      During the investigation, it was established that the 35-year-old man had previously been convicted six times for serious crimes. He confessed to breaking into an auto repair shop by forcing open the gates and stealing a car belonging to a service client. The damage caused to the owner was estimated at 250,000 rubles.

      A criminal case has been initiated for theft. For driving a vehicle while intoxicated without a driver's license, the offender was sentenced to 15 days of administrative arrest.

      It was previously reported that on the M-7 in the Volodarsky district, a motorist ran over an overhead pedestrian crossing. The car caught fire. As a result, two people were injured.
