The director of the Nizhny Novgorod "Institute of Demographic Development" has been released from the pre-trial detention center.

      The investigation has changed the preventive measure for Evgeny Zhuravlev, accused of fraud. The director of the ANO "Institute of Demographic Development" in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Evgeny Zhuravlev, has been released from pre-trial detention, with the preventive measure altered. The decision was made after the investigation assessed that the necessity of detention had lost its relevance. This was reported by the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia, as noted by "Kommersant." Evgeny Zhuravlev was detained in February in a large-scale fraud case. According to the investigation, he instructed to submit false information in time sheets, which allowed him to receive about 350,000 rubles in salary without legal grounds. The Ministry of Social Policy of the Nizhny Novgorod region, which is the founder of the organization, has been recognized as the injured party in the case. Currently, the head of the ANO is formally suspended from his position. As clarified by former project manager of the institution Vera Dombrovskaya, the investigator chose a preventive measure for Zhuravlev in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the region. She herself is a witness in the case. At the same time, Dombrovskaya claims that the previously mentioned facts of possible violations have not been properly investigated. This concerns the alleged overpricing of videos about demographics, for which, according to her data, 8.5 million rubles were allocated while the actual cost was about 2 million. She also believes it is necessary to check the movement of funds, part of which may have been transferred to a third-party organization. Earlier, Dombrovskaya sent appeals to supervisory authorities and held a solo picket in Moscow. It is worth noting that a former employee of Rostekhnadzor in Nizhny Novgorod admitted to receiving bribes.
