More than 4,000 home blood pressure monitors were checked by residents of Nizhny Novgorod during the annual campaign.
On April 14, 2026, at 16:02 Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the results of the All-Russian campaign "Be Confident! Be Healthy!" held last week were summarized. Over three days of operation of specialized points in Nizhny Novgorod, Dzerzhinsk, Arzamas, and Pavlovo, more than 4,000 residents checked the accuracy of their home blood pressure monitors for free. Thus, the Nizhny Novgorod region became the leader of the campaign in terms of the number of participants among the regions of the country. The organizer of the campaign was the Nizhny Novgorod Center for Standardization, Metrology, and Testing with the support of the regional government and the Duma of Nizhny Novgorod. The social significance of the campaign corresponds to the objectives of the program "Combating Cardiovascular Diseases" of the national project "Long and Active Life." "Timely checking of household medical devices is not just a technical procedure, but a contribution to caring for one's own health. As is known, cardiovascular pathologies remain a dominant factor in mortality. The ability to verify the reliability of the readings of a home blood pressure monitor is indeed important. If the device displays incorrect data, the patient should definitely consult a doctor to adjust therapy and avoid critical consequences," noted the Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Andrey Checherin. The All-Russian initiative has been conducted by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) since 2018. Russians are showing an increasing interest in issues of measurement accuracy. This year, specialists from more than 60 organizations subordinate to Rosstandart checked over 41,000 devices across the country, covering 160 settlements. "The campaign is a vivid example of how effectively metrology works for the benefit of people – over the years of its implementation, more than 200,000 blood pressure monitors have been checked. Calibration of devices for measuring blood pressure helps not only to identify possible deviations in the operation of the device but also to increase trust in the measurement results, which depend on human health. We see that every year more citizens begin to consciously relate to the accuracy of blood pressure monitors, and thus – to their own health," noted the head of Rosstandart, Anton Shalaev. As experts explain, the reasons for inaccuracies in blood pressure monitor readings can vary – from an inappropriate cuff size and wear of the inflation bulb to malfunctions of the electronic unit or critically low battery charge. A distinctive feature of the campaign in the region for the second consecutive year is the participation of young volunteers – students from school No. 26 in Dzerzhinsk, which is part of the Metrological Educational Cluster of Rosstandart. "Last year, we tested the format of involving schoolchildren for the first time, and the practice fully justified itself. The kids not only observed the calibration process but also helped in consulting residents, visually mastering the applied role of exact science in everyday life. This year, we were happy to repeat this successful experience," said the director of the Nizhny Novgorod CSM, Alexey Eisenberg. The NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has a Telegram channel.
